Tesla App Login on Android

Android users only. If you're on iPhone, contact ZEVO Support. This guide covers the most common Tesla app login failures specific to Android devices.

Why This Happens

Some Android phones have a known conflict with the Tesla app during its login verification code step. When you switch from the Tesla app to Gmail to grab your 6-digit code, Android can drop the Tesla session or suppress the keyboard — forcing you to restart the login from scratch. This is a Tesla app limitation, not a ZEVO issue, but we've mapped the fastest path through it.

Step-by-Step Fix

Step 1 — Use the Notification Banner (Don't Close the Tesla App)

When Tesla sends your 6-digit verification code:

If the notification banner doesn't show the code:

This is the cleanest fix. If your notification banner is on, this resolves the issue without any restarts.

Step 2 — If the Keyboard Stops Responding

If you tapped the code field and no keyboard appeared:

  1. Close all apps using the 3-line (or square) button at the bottom of your phone
  2. Open Gmail first — let it fully load
  3. Then open the Tesla app
  4. Sign in again and use the notification banner (Step 1) to get your code

Step 3 — If Steps 1 and 2 Don't Work: Restart Your Phone

A full phone restart clears the conflict entirely.

  1. Power off your Android completely
  2. Power it back on
  3. Open Gmail first, let it load
  4. Open the Tesla app and sign in
  5. Use the notification banner to grab your verification code
After a restart, this process should take under 5 minutes.

Setting Up Your Phone Key

Once you are logged in and the vehicle is added, enable the permissions before pairing:

  1. Open Android Settings > Apps > Tesla > Permissions. Allow Location and Nearby devices if shown, and make sure Bluetooth is on.
  2. Return to Tesla, tap Set Up Phone Key, and stand within a few feet of the vehicle.
  3. Move other paired phones or watches away, or temporarily turn off Bluetooth on them, then retry.
  4. If permissions were denied and cannot be restored, reinstall only when initial setup never completed. If this phone is your only key or you are locked out, contact ZEVO before uninstalling or signing out.

How the Phone Key Works Day-to-Day

Your phone connects to the Tesla via Bluetooth. You do not need to do anything manually — the car detects your proximity automatically.

Checking Your Battery Level

Your charge level is shown in the top left of the Tesla touchscreen as either a percentage (e.g., 77%) or miles of range (e.g., 230 miles).

Finding the USB-C Charger Port

To charge your phone inside the vehicle:

  1. Locate the cubby hole in front of the cup holders
  2. Slide open the cover
  3. Two USB-C ports are on the back wall inside the cubby

If You Get Signed Out After Your Booking Starts

If the Tesla app logs you out mid-booking:

  1. Close all apps
  2. Open Gmail first
  3. Open the Tesla app and sign back in
  4. Use the notification banner to get your verification code without switching apps
  5. If that fails, restart your phone and try again

Contact ZEVO Support if you're still locked out after a phone restart.
