Understanding the Risks of Peer-to-Peer Hosting
- Like any car sharing platform, hosting vehicles comes with inherent business risks.
- Occasionally, issues arise: such as non-payment, vehicle recovery needs, extended cleaning, or other costs related to problem guests.
- These situations are few and far between, but they are a normal part of operating in the peer-to-peer car sharing space.
Responsibility for Costs
- Damage, excessive mess, or cleaning beyond normal wear is the driver's responsibility.
- Recovery and repossession costs tied to guest non-payment are pursued from the driver.
- Time and effort spent addressing these issues are part of the operational reality of hosting.
- ZEVO does not reimburse hosts for recovery, repossession, cleaning, or damage expenses unless explicitly stated in writing.
ZEVO's Role in Collections
- ZEVO coordinates enforcement, recovery, and collections when a guest defaults.
- We document incidents and bill charges to the driver when supported by evidence through our incidentals system.
- We do our best to collect on behalf of hosts, but if collection efforts are unsuccessful, ZEVO does not absorb or reimburse those costs.
- ZEVO facilitates claims and policy enforcement but is not the financial backstop for guest-caused losses.
Guest Screening
- All guests complete Persona ID verification and Checkr background checks.
- These checks significantly reduce risk but cannot guarantee payment or prevent every incident.
Important Clarification
- "Incidentals covered" means ZEVO administers and enforces recovery from the guest on your behalf.
- It does not mean ZEVO absorbs all costs or eliminates operational risk for hosts.
Bottom Line
- ZEVO will pursue the guest under our terms and do everything we can to recover costs.
- If recovery efforts are unsuccessful, unrecovered costs are not reimbursed or backfilled by the platform.
- Peer-to-peer hosting involves risk, and our policies are structured with that reality in mind.
- These incidents happen, but they're uncommon—and they're a normal part of running a car sharing business.
We understand how frustrating situations like this can be and take host concerns seriously. When issues arise, our goal is to be transparent about responsibility, support enforcement to the fullest extent possible, and ensure you have the tools and backing to pursue resolution—while being clear about what the platform can and cannot cover.
When repossessing a car, prioritize safety and caution as these situations can be unpredictable.
If you believe the situation poses any danger, call a tow truck instead of attempting it yourself
If you decide to repossess it yourself:
- Locate the exact position on Standard Fleet and arrange transportation to that location
- Verify all tires are properly inflated or bring a portable tire pump with you
- Approach the vehicle with caution. Set up your phone key while walking toward the car. For vehicles with pin-to-drive enabled, start the vehicle using the controls section in the Tesla app or with StandardFleets mobile application
- Drive the car to a secure location, Submit a Vehicle Inspection and end the booking. Then, inform the ZEVO team to claim the deposit
- Follow Untitled workflow
- Deactivate maintenance mode once the vehicle is returned to its listing location to stop insurance and automatically remove your phone key
